2. Locate and turn off the main stopcock for your home's water supply, which is usually found under the kitchen sink or near the water meter. Once the main stopcock is off, open a cold tap downstairs to drain any remaining water from the pipes and relieve pressure, then check that no water is flowing from the old tap before proceeding.
3. Using a basin wrench or adjustable spanner, carefully disconnect the water supply pipes from the old tap's tail connections underneath the sink. Once disconnected, unscrew the retaining nuts that hold the old tap in place, typically found on a threaded rod, and then lift the old tap body clear from the sink surface.
